Cherry Ridge LLC prides itself on being a women-owned-and-operated environmental consulting business, working in a STEM field that is typically a male-dominated industry. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math. Educators focus on STEM in school curriculums to teach students valuable problem-solving skills and encourage them to pursue a career in these under-represented fields. Certain curriculums employ STEAM teachings, including the Arts, encouraging students to think creatively through collaboration. Environmental consulting as a career employs people with diverse backgrounds in science, engineering, and math and we use our problem-solving skills daily to assist clients in achieving their project goals. It is certainly an exciting industry to work in!
Cherry Ridge has sponsored STEAM events in the past and is scheduled to attend more in the future. In 2022, Cherry Ridge was a proud sponsor of the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs STEAM Night where we set up an exhibit explaining wetlands and why protecting them is so important. For young children, we offered fun word searches and environmental-themed coloring sheets. We also offered an exhibit showcasing how wetlands “work” to capture and filter pollutants. This was a great way to incorporate environmental education into a creative learning experience for kids while interacting with our community. We are excited to return to Coca-Cola Park once again this year for STEAM Night on Earth Day, April 22nd!
Other community appearances we’ve participated in include the 25th Community Aviation Day Rotary Fly-in / Drive-in Breakfast in Tobyhanna, PA. Our booth helped educate our community about our services while we engaged in many conversations with young and old alike on STEM fields of study, wetland protection and smart community development in our area.
We are always looking for creative ways to interest and educate young minds about our field. Careers in science are more important than ever, especially to younger generations who will grow up as our climate continues to change.
We support getting children involved in STEM and are ready to help your group or event learn about the environment. Educators, troop leaders, event coordinators, and more can reach out to us to inquire about educational opportunities where our scientists can come speak to young minds, help with hands-on activities, get them involved in STEM, and show them our career in science in action!
